Prosecutor’s Office investigates theft of milk for children and gas canisters

The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic is investigating cases of theft of essential goods in Havana and Sancti Spíritus, where alleged perpetrators and circumstances of the incidents have been identified.

In Habana del Este, a refrigerator containing 197 sacks of powdered milk intended for children under two years old was stolen. Seven people currently face provisional imprisonment: two employees from the center, a self-employed worker who purchased most of the product at high prices, and four intermediaries who sold it through digital platforms. Investigations continue to gather more evidence.

In Sancti Spíritus, four individuals were detained, three of them with precautionary imprisonment measures. Two are responsible for the theft of gas cylinders from more than 20 homes, while the other two illegally commercialized them. Investigations continue regarding the control of these resources and their acquisition.

These acts harm citizens, especially in the current economic context, aggravated by the US blockade. The Prosecutor’s Office will take criminal action before the courts, demanding sanctions proportional to the seriousness of the crimes, while respecting constitutional guarantees.

The institution reaffirms its commitment to protect State interests and people’s rights, always acting within the framework of the law.
