Puerto Padre solar park connects to Cuba’s national power grid
The Puerto Padre solar park in Las Tunas province has been officially connected to Cuba’s National Electric System (SEN).
In a recent announcement on the social media platform X, Osbel Lorenzo, the Communist Party’s first secretary in the region, confirmed the integration of the Puerto Padre photovoltaic park into the national grid. This development is part of Cuba’s broader strategy to increase renewable energy production, in line with the National Development Plan 2030. The initiative aims to reduce frequent power outages, which have been a persistent problem for the Cuban population.
The Puerto Padre solar park is expected to significantly contribute to the local energy supply, harnessing the region’s abundant sunlight to generate clean electricity. This project is one of several renewable energy initiatives being implemented across the country, reflecting Cuba’s commitment to diversifying its energy sources and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
