Estimated deficit of 1425 MW in electricity service

Power interruptions continued throughout yesterday and early this Wednesday, with a maximum impact of 1475 MW recorded at 10:00 p.m., coinciding with peak demand time. Despite the contribution of 12 new photovoltaic solar parks, which generated 1374 MWh, generation insufficiency maintained outages in several regions of the country.

Among the main causes are breakdowns in Unit 1 of Santa Cruz, Unit 2 of the Felton CTE, and Unit 6 of the Renté CTE. Additionally, scheduled maintenance at Unit 2 of Santa Cruz, Unit 4 of Cienfuegos, and Unit 5 of Renté further reduced available capacity. This was compounded by 379 MW out of service due to thermal limitations in other plants.

Fuel shortages also affected generation, with 63 distributed generation units impacted (450 MW), 126 MW lost due to oil scarcity in engines, and 76 MW unavailable at the Melones Patana. In total, this cause represented a reduction of 652 MW in the system.

For today’s peak hours, the incorporation of Unit 1 of Santa Cruz is planned, with 65 MW of generation. However, availability is estimated at only 2055 MW against a maximum demand of 3480 MW, leaving a deficit of 1425 MW. If conditions do not improve, the impact during this period could reach 1495 MW. Electrical authorities are working to restore service, although the situation remains complex.
