Who are we?

“(…) if press freedom is to be valued by any sector, it is precisely not for those who profit from it, but for those who, thanks to press freedom, write, guide, and work with thought and vocation, exercising this right that the Revolution reclaimed for the country and that the Revolution maintains for the country, even amid all the tendentious campaigns that seek to rally as many enemies as possible against the revolutionary work.”

Speech delivered on June 7, 1959

We are a group of professionals from various fields of communication, design, and Social Sciences, working to denounce the hostile policy of the United States toward Cuba. From a revolutionary, anti-capitalist, anti-colonialist, and Latin American perspective, rooted in the anti-imperialist vocation of Cuba’s sociopolitical system, we seek to expose the domination ambitions of the global superpower over Our America and the world.

Reasons of Cuba was born to combat media censorship by hegemonic outlets, lackeys of transnational capitalist power. It unveils the underbelly of U.S. subversion against the Greater Antilles in all spheres of national development, the impact of the economic, financial, and commercial blockade on the Cuban people, the methods of unconventional warfare used to promote a system change on the Island, as well as other current national and international issues, with an emancipatory leftist vocation.

We aim to integrate into contemporary Communication trends. Our hypermedia format, with television support, leverages the web’s potential to offer users multimedia and interactive content.

From a Fidelist and Martían vision, we work in service of the truth. We represent the resistance of the Cuban people against U.S. harassment and the resulting adversities in the national and international context.

Our country stands as a beacon of light amid centuries of capitalist exploitation. We reaffirm our commitment to continue building socialism, the fairest system for humanity. The website Reasons of Cuba serves as an alternative space, embedded in an international media ecosystem allied with imperialism, where the Cuban people also raise their voices in defense of their independence and sovereignty.

A bit of history

The journalistic website Reasons of Cuba emerged during a public denunciation process initiated in April 2010, by decision of the country’s leadership, in the context of the intense international media campaign surrounding the death of Orlando Zapata Tamayo. He was a common inmate, accused of several crimes. Encouraged by counterrevolutionary forces, he undertook a hunger strike that ended in his death due to medical complications associated with starvation.

The series aired on national television between February and April 2012, with weekly frequency. It addressed the various subversive programs of the U.S. government against the Greater Antilles. It consisted of several audiovisual reports, alongside dissemination in other press media and social networks.

The first segment, The Path of Terror, included three episodes on acts of terrorism by the United States against Cuba. It focused on the actions of Luis Posada Carriles and the network of Central American mercenaries who promoted attacks on Havana hotels in 1997.

The next six broadcasts aimed to expose ongoing subversion strategies under the Bush Plan. For this, they drew on the work of Cuban State Security agents embedded in programs developed by U.S. government agencies. The identities of Dalexi González, Carlos Serpa Maseira, Moisés Rodríguez, José Manuel Collera, Frank Carlos Vázquez, and Raúl Capote were revealed. In November 2021, agent Fernando from State Security organs was exposed in a denunciation of enemy plans to incite social unrest through political actors in the cultural sphere.

As part of the dissemination strategy, the permanent subdomain www.lasrazonesdecuba.cubadebate.cu was created. The platform grew richer with content focused on the theme of Cuba-U.S. relations and this country’s aggressions against the Island.

In 2019, the media institution moved to its own domain, www.razonesdecuba.cu, with a more attractive design interface and multiple sections. Today, the press outlet’s primary mission is to produce modern infocommunicative products of high credibility, embodying political, ethical, social, ideological, and aesthetic virtues, in service of knowledge, culture, and the defense of the nation’s values and interests and those of its citizens.
