Council of Ministers approves important draft laws and planning schemes

In an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers, presided over by Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, several draft laws and planning schemes were reviewed and approved, aiming to strengthen the country’s legal and administrative framework.
Approved Draft Laws
The Council agreed to present to the President of the National Assembly of People’s Power four significant draft laws:
1. Cuban Sports System: This draft establishes the legal framework for the sports system in the country, highlighting its modernity and inclusive approach. The president of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education, and Recreation (INDER), Osvaldo Vento Montiller, stated that this law will be fundamental for the development of Cuban sports, reflecting the best practices and the thought of Fidel Castro.
2. General Regime of Administrative Offenses and Sanctions: Presented by Justice Minister Oscar Silvera Martínez, this project seeks to regulate administrative infractions and their penalties, responding to the need for a clearer and more efficient framework in this area.
3.Civil Registry: This draft aims to improve the Civil Registry, enhancing its computerization and establishing a disciplinary regime for civil registrars.
4.Code of Childhood, Adolescence, and Youth: Education Minister Naima Ariatne Trujillo Barreto highlighted that this code was developed after an extensive consultation process, seeking to ensure the rights and integral development of young people in Cuba.
Planning Schemes
During the session, the Urban Planning Plan of Santiago de Cuba was also approved, presented by the president of the National Institute of Territorial Planning and Urbanism (INOTU), Raúl Omar Acosta Gregorich. This plan aims to improve the quality of life and sustainable development of the city, ensuring that planning decisions are aligned with the necessary infrastructure and urbanization.
The President of INOTU emphasized that planning schemes should be working tools for local governments and not just archived documents. The Prime Minister added that it is crucial to reconcile housing development with existing infrastructure.
Fight Against Corruption
The Comptroller General of the Republic, Miriam Marbán González, presented a set of approved actions to prevent and combat corruption in the administrative sphere, underscoring the importance of maintaining integrity in public management.
Candidacy of the Viñales Geopark
Finally, the candidacy of the Viñales Geopark as a UNESCO Global Geopark was approved, which could make it the first of its kind in the Caribbean. This recognition would contribute to the conservation of the area’s geological and natural heritage, attracting tourism and generating income for local communities.
With these initiatives, the Council of Ministers reaffirms its commitment to the social, economic, and sustainable development of Cuba, seeking a more prosperous and just future for all its citizens.
