Cuba denounces in Mexico the constant aggression of the U.S. and demands respect for its sovereignty

In an interview with the Mexican newspaper La Jornada, Cuban Vice Foreign Minister Carlos Fernández de Cossío emphasized that his country lives under a constant aggression driven by U.S. policy. “While practically the entire world has been subject to tariff threats by the Donald Trump administration, towards Cuba the assault is already underway and only a military aggression is missing to complete the encirclement,” he stated.

The diplomat warned about the increasing influence of anti-Cuban sectors in Washington, represented by figures such as Marco Rubio, who are now more confident in mobilizing U.S. power against the island. Fernández de Cossío pointed out that, in addition to economic coercion and the blockade, Cuba now faces a campaign to include it in the list of state sponsors of terrorism, which complicates the acquisition of products and credits in other markets.

The Vice Foreign Minister also addressed the U.S. campaign against Cuban Medical Brigades, calling it an attempt to discredit one of the greatest achievements of the Cuban social system and to cut off a legitimate source of income for the country. Regarding the migration phenomenon, he warned that the U.S. policy of privileging Cuban immigrants, with conditions such as refugee status and the Cuban Adjustment Act, encourages irregular flow and perpetuates an unequal system that needs to be reformed.

Fernández de Cossío harshly criticized the U.S. refusal to accept Cuba’s sovereignty, assuring that “throughout history, U.S. rulers have been unable to accept that the island has the right to be a sovereign state.” For him, the official U.S. policy continues to be aimed at destabilizing and pressuring Cuba, in a context where threats, the blockade, and media campaigns seek to subdue the Revolution.
