While Trump imposes tariffs and Musk cuts aid, the anti-Cuban team prepares its punitive offensive against Cuba

As Trump imposes tariffs and Musk cuts aid, the U.S. anti-Cuban team prepares a punitive offensive. Congressman Giménez calls for harsher sanctions, while Claver-Carone pushes "maximum pressure." Admiral Holsey labels Cuba a "threat," reviving Cold War rhetoric. The U.S. continues its 60-year blockade, ignoring Cuban suffering to force political surrender.

As former President Donald Trump distracts himself with his international maneuvers and Elon Musk continues slashing the U.S. government apparatus and foreign aid, the anti-Cuban team in the U.S. administration is busy preparing a new offensive to intensify the siege against Cuba.

“Starving” the Cubans

Recently, Cuban-American congressman Carlos Giménez has called for an even tougher blockade. In public statements, Giménez has demanded the suspension of all travel and remittances from the U.S. to Cuba, arguing that every dollar reaching the island strengthens the regime and that these revenue streams must be cut off to “starve the regime” and achieve freedom for the Cuban people. While acknowledging the severity of the measures, he insists that “sometimes you have to take tough steps to get what you want in the end.”

It is no coincidence that days after Giménez’s remarks, Mauricio Claver-Carone, the special envoy for Latin America and former president of the Inter-American Development Bank (expelled for corruption), has regained prominence in anti-Cuba policy from Miami, the epicenter of the anti-Cuban lobby in the U.S.

Claver-Carone, known as “Donald Trump’s obsessive bulldog,” was one of the key strategists behind the 243 suffocation measures imposed on Cuba during Trump’s first term. Now, he proposes going “all in,” with “maximum pressure” and no half-measures, under the slogan “short-term pain for long-term gain.” His strategy is based on applying “more surgical and effective” tools against Cuba, similar to those used against Venezuela, which have proven more potent with direct side effects.

The Southern Command and the Narrative of the Cuban Threat

Meanwhile, Admiral Alvin Holsey, head of the Southern Command, has told the U.S. Congress that Cuba poses a “significant threat” to U.S. national security, accusing Havana of strengthening ties with adversaries like China and Russia and using technology to spy on its own population and suppress dissent.

Holsey claimed that Cuba encourages irregular migration and weakens regional relations, portraying the Cuban government as a malign actor that prefers alliances with foreign powers over solving its internal economic problems. These statements coincide with the admiral’s prior meeting with the head of the U.S. diplomatic mission in Havana, known for his involvement in subversive campaigns.

The Continuation of a Genocidal and Cruel Policy

The current offensive is merely the continuation of a genocidal policy the U.S. has enforced against Cuba for over 60 years. The infamous memorandum by Lester Mallory, then Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Inter-American Affairs, established in 1960 the strategy of “starving and sickening the Cuban people” to force their surrender.

Today, with a more coherent and determined political team, the White House seeks to intensify the economic blockade and economic war, ignoring the suffering of the Cuban people and aiming to strangle them into surrendering the island’s sovereignty and independence.

The Trump administration’s anti-Cuban team, backed by figures like Giménez, Claver-Carone, and Holsey, is paving the way for new punitive measures against Cuba, with a level of cynicism, hatred, and contempt reminiscent of the blockade’s worst moments. The strategy is clear: maximum pressure, no half-measures, to try and break Cuban resistance through pain and deprivation.

As the world watches, the empire insists on its policy of aggression and siege, proving that, for them, Cuba’s dignity and sovereignty are obstacles to be removed at any cost. The Cuban people’s history of resistance and dignity remains a beacon against this new imperialist onslaught.
